About Joseph

Joseph Howard is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in North Carolina. He has a BA degree from the University of Alabama (Psychology) and a Master’s in Social Work from the University of Georgia. In his early career, he worked in public mental health, both clinic and hospital settings. He has worked with children, families and adults. Later, he developed a private practice with adults in Asheville. Beginning in 2014, he began working assignments with the US Military as a Military Family Life Counselor (MFLC) working primarily with children and adolescents. In this role, he has worked in the US, Germany and Japan. His most recent MFLC assignment was in Alaska, summer of 2025.

Clients have found Joseph to be warm, compassionate and down-to-earth. His aim is to help people gain deeper awareness, self-compassion and healing in areas of their lives that want improvement. He uses a change-oriented, non-pathological approach. He knows that we are all works in progress, worthy of success.

In his spare time, Joseph like to hike, play guitar and is a writer. He’s had one book published in 2014 and is currently working on two more.
